Friday May 21 Cosmic Boom with Alexander Robotnick

There’s a new hotspot in town…..

In May 2010 the Boom Chicago, for years Amsterdam’s leading comedy venue opened a new clubbing experience on the infamous Leidseplein in the heart of Amsterdam’s main entertainment area. From May onwards Boom Chicago will host every Friday the best that contemporary dance music has to offer with some excellent brands in an intimate and amazing location. The Fridays will be the home of the Cosmic Boom nights with regular showcases of I-F’s Intergalactic FM, Alexander Robotnick Specials, Crème Organization nights and the finest disco and electro dj’s around.

Alexander Robotnick needs no explanation. What Kraftwerk meant for Electro, Alexander Robotnick means for Italo. This legend has been one of the main players in the original days of its genre. Therefore we’re proud to present a special Alexander Robotnick night with the master himself supported by the Arctic Boogie crew on Friday the 21st of May. Since the release of Problemes D’Amour in 1983 Mr. Robotnick sky rocketed as an Italo superstar, now at the age of 60 he’s still going strong and besides releasing tracks such as his recent Obsessions for the Disco Freaks he uploads the most cult videos on his YouTube channel. The only way to explain it is to go and visit the channel by yourself at http://www.youtube.com/user/mauriziodami.

Arctic Boogie is supporting the evening with their own Baz Reznik and Raoul in the main and in the second room more Detroit and Chicago inspired deepness brought by Endfest and Jayton.

RA Reviews: Basic Soul Unit - Tuff Luv EP (Single)

RA Reviews: Basic Soul Unit - Tuff Luv EP (Single)

It was pretty clear from his steady output over the past 12 months that Basic Soul Unit was a talented producer, but Tuff Luv EP may just vault him to somewhere else. The Toronto-based beatmaker's first solo EP of 2010 fits neatly into the dirty acid vibe of The Hague's Crème Organization, finding life in the often reverential genre. Stuart Li, the man behind the BSU name, has done the same throughout his career, injecting a bit of life into the sterile waters of deep house with "Things Pass" from last year.

Whether it be the marriage of wavering synths and industrial crunch of "Jak'd Freq" or the raw offbeat acid of the title track, you get the sense that Li is operating in the same sphere as dubstep producers like Untold. Taking the best bits of one genre and wrapping it up with another, these tracks sound familiar yet new. Obvious, yet fresh. And when Li does revert to classicism, as we hear on the melodic IDM tribute "Yellow River," it's no less affecting. (It's reminiscent of Oni Ayhun's similarly aimed " OAR003-B.") But whether it's reverential or forward-thinking is of little consequence. Tuff Luv is simply great music, full stop.
